A Throwback to the Past
It's been 10 years in the making for my good friend, James Rolfe, and on Septemeber 2, 2014 a momentous milestone celebrates his hardwork and constant dedication with the digital release of his debut feature film, Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie. The movie has just finished its highly anticipated theatrical run which SOLD OUT in over 20 US and Canadian cities in under two weeks. James has inspired me, and I hope this movie inspires film makers and musicians all over the world. He's proven that you do not need CGI (computer generated imagery) or a million dollar budget to make your dreams come true. You need to be inspired by the artists that move you and willing to sincerely inspire new artists to come.
I don't believe James's achievements are luck. I've known him for 15 years, and I have been lucky enough to be behind the scenes, join in some of these achievements, and see the time and dedication needed to turn hours of film into inspiring, creative projects. It's this hardwork and this creative mind that turned James' childhood dreams into an amazing reality - not luck. Years ago my childhood heros inspired me to pick up a guitar. Hendrix taught me the blues, and The Beatles showed me brilliant melodies & harmonies. We are currently in a new era for new artists to produce; the internet has broken down walls once too sturdy to tackle. Today I am inspired by these new independent artists that fight their way to the top, bashing down these walls of the past with every new stride they take. And that's just what James did. That is just what he is continuing to do. Congratulations, buddy. You did it. You deserve it!
I've learned a couple important things from James throughout these years. Be humble. Be dedicated. Be hardworking. Be creative. Have fun. Don't take yourself too seriously. Make something inspiring. And most importantly… be who you want to be. Don’t let anybody change you.
A Great Movie Needs An Inspiring Soundtrack
For that, Emmy Award winner Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica) composed an epic two hour musical journey combining live orchestra with custom samples of old school video games and melodic excerpts from the original Angry Video Game Nerd Theme Song. Bear did not hold back; this soundtrack knocks you on your ass from the beginning to the end, and it takes the movie’s volume knob to level 11! The soundtrack will also include a newly polished, re-mixed, and mastered version of the original, full-length Angry Video Game Nerd Theme Song, which features the master recordings of the original drum track by David Ruscitti, and the master recordings of the original vocal/guitar tracks by me. The newly updated song also includes a second guitar track by Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry) and a brand new bass track.
On September 2, 2014 the movie's soundtrack will be released on iTunes by Bear McCreary's record label Sparks & Shadows.
